Diligent Watcher

Come on now, who better to watch your money than yourself? Below are some tips I have learned that have helped me to stay afloat when it comes to finances.

Never leave your finances in the hands of a person you don’t completely trust

What I mean by this is do your research on the firm/individual you are entrusting to look after your money. Ask about their background, see how their other clients (if it doesn’t encroach their privacy) like the services they offer.

Ask questions, questions and more questions

No question is a dumb question when it comes to your money. Don’t pretend to question-markunderstand when you don’t! It is their job to explain things to you so don’t feel bad if you don’t get it the first time. Think of it this way. If your doctor diagnosed you with a rare disease you would not mind asking them to explain it to you in layman’s terms.

Monitor your credit score

Tcredit-karma-logohere are several ways to do this. Now a days a lot of credit card companies offer free credit monitoring, I urge you to take advantage. It never hurts to have an extra pair of eyes keeping watch. Sign up on free credit sites like Credit Karma. This way you can keep in check how much credit card utilization you have, and receive notices when your credit score has increase/decreased and the reasons for it.

The B word

Budget! It doesn’t matter how rich or poor a person is, everyone needs a budget. What good is monitoring and saving up for the future if you don’t know how much to save or where the savings will come from? A budget will help determine what are you are spending the most on and if it can be cut down.
